Round 7 Results of the 2026 86Cup Presented by Maxxis Tires
Coming off the heels of our last foray at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park excursion, Round 7 saw the 86Cup community tackle the newest track on the compound, Buttonwillow Circuit!
The weather was absolutely brutal for Round 7, being in the high 90s/100s shortly after the first morning session. Needless to say, that did not stop you all from coming out as we had a total of TWENTY-FIVE folks participating in 86Cup after the Buttonwillow dust had settled.
To add to this all, Round 7 was also a part of the inaugural Outrun Time Attack hosted by our friends at Speed Ventures. This provided a little bit of a different scenario than usual to 86Cup where in lieu of being an extracurricular to some HPDE, our participants were subjected to a more true to fashion time attack qualifying and flyer/personal best session style of running in the latter half of the day. We watched the timesheets as per usual, and you all did great despite this setup being foreign to some of you!
We’d like to give a special shout out to our Stock class folks who were mainly categorized in Outrun_06 class and took home ALL THREE podium spots. Nicely done Sean, Ryan R. and Garrett!
Round 7 Class Winners are as follows:
Stock – Sean Irwin
Street – Phuoc Hai Tran
Modified – Will Wattanawongkiri
Unlimited – Jared Ramirez
Joseph Alfonso once again wins the OS Giken $100 Modified Class Fastest Lap of the day! It looks like we’ll need to redo our “IOU” check from last round as he’s so fast he just packs it up early! lol
Jared also breaks his own personal best at Buttonwillow Circuit with a 1:55.854, hot off the heels of his podium finish at Gridlife Laguna Seca in the ClubTR class. The 86Cup records page has been updated with new times after the last two rounds. Due to our new rules this year, a lot of new times have been set, but they won’t count as “breaking the record” until 2027 (pending any future rules changes) aside from Unlimited Class times, so get your name on the board while you can!
Rounds 8 and 9 will take place at the fabulous Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in Desert Center, California on November 21st and 22nd with our friends at Speed Ventures! This weekend sells out every single year, and we always have to be the bearers of bad news to friends and new faces alike that want to join us out at Chuckwalla. ALL 86Cup rounds for the rest of the year are now open for the track day registration portion of the event on the Speed Ventures website.
Saturday night on 11/21 will also feature our annual 86Cup Potluck BBQ after the Saturday track driving has concluded at the Chuckwalla cabins, which if the doubleheader weekend wasn’t enough, the Potluck BBQ is a can’t miss event! It’s one of the few times a year we get to just relax and hang out with each other. As always, we’ll have a signup closer to the event date for folks to sign up to bring whatever they’d like. Chuckwalla cabins are sold out at this time so best to ask to bunk with someone who got ahead or grab a hotel in the Palm Springs area on the way to the track. We hope you can make it out for this!
We’d like to thank Maxxis Tires for a fabulous round and for presenting the series plus their tire contingency as always! CounterSpace Garage for allowing us to tap into their deep racing knowledge base and for their support of us since the inception of 86Cup. OS Giken for providing for our cash bounty fastest lap of the day and for manufacturing great drivetrain products our drivers are putting through the paces on track. And as always, lastly, Speed Ventures for hosting a fabulous day full of speed and excitement.
We’ll see you at Chuck!
